As Faith Hill puts it, “Just breeeeeathe.” It’s vital to let your skin breathe every so often, but before the pandemic, my skin did anything but.

I heard it’s healthy to give your face a break. A makeup-free flawless face for a few self-care days. However, before 2020 happened, I’m not even sure when I went makeup free besides after I washed before going to bed.

When I had my office job 5 days a week and the out-and-about weekends, I always had to look my best. I abhor to admit this, but I was the girl that couldn’t leave the house without makeup. I’m not exactly certain where that came from but it was probably adopted from my teens. The insecure need to be pretty so you would be liked.

Thinking “being pretty and being liked” go hand-and-hand is an outdated, immature, false ideal, but also what changes in time is the way we view real beauty.

In a lot of ways, the pandemic forced us to reset and reexamine ourselves. As businesses and borders began to close around the world, like many others, my typical 9-to-5 office job became 100% remote.

After 3 years of working remotely, it’s changed the way I work and live my life, but more specifically, it’s allowed my skin to breathe. I no longer participate in the morning rush and apply the mindless makeup routine. No more morning commute and feeling the need to look “presentable.”

Now, a freshly cleansed and moisturized face does the trick. I’ve learned to be comfortable with minimal, remembering that true beauty begins with healthy and vibrant skin. Not to mention, the money you save by not using up your makeup products every day.

Enjoy those makeup-free days. It’s like giving your face a kiss! Remember to appreciate your natural beauty, cleanse, moisturize, and breathe.
